Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) helps promote good Township government by balancing the following principles:

Freedom of Information (FOI)

  • The public has the right to access government information.
  • Whenever possible, information held by the Township of Langley should be available to the public.

Protection of Privacy (POP)

  • Individuals have the right to have their personal information protected.
  • The Township of Langley should not improperly collect or disclose personal information.

Some municipal records, however, are protected from full disclosure under the Act. For these instances, a formal, written request for the records can be made.

A request can be made using the Township’s Request for Access to Records form available from service counters at Township facilities or click here.  Requests are processed as quickly as possible and within the 30 working day time frame specified in the Act.  If the record is old or involves significant staff research time, the municipality may require a time extension of an additional 30 working days.

Section 75 of the Act and Section 7 of the FOI regulations allows for fees and charges related to processing FOI requests.
