Clean Up Langley Day

Thank you to everyone who registered to help clean up Langley on Saturday, April 25.

For the safety of our community and residents, we have decided to cancel this year's Clean Up Langley Day event. We will reach out to those who have graciously signed-up for this year's event and will provide updates should the event be rescheduled.

Clean Up Langley Day helps the Township of Langley sparkle and shine by encouraging residents to take part in a community-wide litter pick up.

Every year, families, individuals, businesses, and community groups show our streets, parks, and trails a little love by pitching in to collect litter discarded in public spaces.

Stay tuned for more information on future Clean Up Langley Day events.

FAQ

Registration is easy! When event registration is live, we offer a convenient online signup. You can choose to join an existing cleanup, work alone, or host a cleanup for others to join.
Join existing cleanups happening around the Township or start a new one! If you want to host or conduct your own, look around your neighborhood to see where you might want to start. Is there a street, park, trail, or creek that could benefit from a little elbow grease? If so, rally your neighbours and friends and bring it back to its original splendor.

Garbage can be disposed of in two ways:

  • If you are hosting a cleanup and expect a fair bit of waste, place the garbage in a specific location after your cleanup. Sierra Waste will pick up the garbage if it is in a designated area (e.g., at the front of a park, end of a driveway, on the side of a road). Please ensure the material is not blocking or impeding traffic or site lines. Note: For this option, you’ll need to pre-determine where you will place the garbage and note this in your registration. Have the garbage ready for the hauler to pick up by 2:00pm.
  • If you are conducting your own cleanup and you receive municipal garbage pick up, you can place small amounts outside with household garbage. Sierra Waste will pick up garbage from your cleanup if it is placed beside your garbage cart on collection day. Please ensure you place the garbage collected from the cleanup in the yellow bags provided in your supply kit upon registration and the logo is visible from the street. If you do not receive municipal garbage collection, leave the waste in a visible location by the road and request a pick up by filling out a Clean Up Report, emailing adopt@tol.ca, or giving us a call at 604-532-7300.

For those who register in advance, the Township will provide:

  • Disposable gloves
  • Safety vests
  • Garbage pickers (limited quantities)
  • Yellow garbage bags

In the days leading up to the event, hosts can pick up these supplies from the Township Operations Centre (4700 - 224 Street). Hosts are required to bring all the supplies back to the Operations Centre following the event (not including the bags of garbage).

Cleanups can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. All groups should finish by 2:00pm. This will give the hauler time to collect the garbage.

Leading up to the event, registrants can use Township posters, flyers, and social media graphics to help recruit volunteers.

Hosting a cleanup is easier and more fun than you think! You get to spend quality outdoor time with your friends (and maybe even make some new ones), help nip litter in the bud, and inspire others to take on cleanup initiatives regularly.

As a host, you get to lead your team and organize your crew’s efforts. But don’t worry – we’re here to help you along the way. Once we process your registration, we'll post your organization's name and cleanup location, inviting others to join your group. When volunteers sign up to join your cleanup crew, we’ll let you know. We'll also ensure you have enough cleanup supplies, signage, and provide you a list of who to expect on Clean Up Langley Day. On the day of the event, your hosting duties will include manning a welcome station for the volunteers joining your cleanup, handing out supplies, outlining safety guidelines, and suggesting cleanup routes. You’ll also place all collected garbage at the designated pick-up spot at the end of the event.
