Did you know?

A. There are up to $6,000 in rebates from the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program when installing a heat pump. There are rebates available for upgrading from electric, natural gas, oil, propane, and wood to a heat pump.

B. There is a Heat Pump Group Purchase Rebate that allows you to access more rebates by joining a group of community members who are also buying a heat pump.

Rebates and Incentives

One of the most significant ways for Township residents to decrease their energy usage and GHG emissions is by completing energy efficiency upgrades on their homes. Below are Township, Fortis BC, BC Hydro, and provincial rebates that will help lessen the cost-burden of these upgrades.

A maximum of $600 for the energy evaluations and $5,000 for home upgrades is available ($5,600 total in grants).

An interest-free loan program is also available, providing homeowners with up to $40,000 to help complete deep home retrofits.

Income Qualified Program

Through their CleanBC Better Homes program, the Province of BC has introduced an income qualified rebate program where homeowners may be eligible to receive enhanced rebates that cover 60-95% of home upgrade costs.

Maximum rebate values:

  • Insulation: Up to $5,500
  • Windows and doors: Up to $9,500
  • Heat pumps: Up to $9,500
  • Heat pump water heaters: Up to $3,500

Additional rebates are available for necessary health and safety, ventilation, and electrical panel upgrades. Free energy coaching, virtual energy assessments, and support in multiple languages are also available to help you identify the home upgrades and rebates that are best for your home.

Free Energy Saving Kit

Low- and moderate-income households can apply online for a free energy saving kit from BC Hydro that contains simple, energy-saving products you can install yourself. You can use the kit to seal up the drafts around your home, save on lighting costs, and reduce your home’s water usage.

Kits are customizable and can contain:

  • LED bulbs
  • Weatherstripping to reduce drafts around windows and doors
  • High efficiency showerheads
  • Water-saving tap aerators
  • LED night light
  • Fridge and freezer thermometer
  • A Step-by-step instruction guide to help you install each product

If you rent your home, you can apply for a free kit if the BC Hydro account is in your name. See if you qualify.

Free Home Energy Evaluation and Upgrades

Income-qualified households, including renters can receive free advice, installation of energy-saving products, and upgrades as part of BC Hydro and FortisBC’s Energy Conservation Assistance Program. You’ll work with an energy coach who will review your home’s energy use, show you some simple ways to improve its energy efficiency and identify potential upgrades to be installed. Check if your household qualifies, and apply.
