Business Support

Located at both the Civic Facility and Operations Centre, Engineering Business Support provides administrative support for departments within the Division. Business Support provides services such as budget preparation and monitoring, dispatch, invoicing, payroll, and permit application receipts. They are the first point of contact for public inquiries for all services in the Engineering Division.

Duty Examples

Performs moderately complex clerical work related to departmental functions, such as: reviews, prepares, processes a variety of materials; receives and responds to complaints; responds to various inquiries regarding departmental programs and operations.

Maintains and updates various electronic/manual files and complex records, statistical reports, performs typing and word-processing.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Certifications

Desired Experience/Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and preferably supplemented by commercial and accounting courses
  • Experience in a municipal environment (preferred)

Assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of subordinates performing clerical duties; trains and instructs new employees.

Posts, maintains, reconciles and balances complex activity control records and accounts.

Processes, maintains, and interprets legal documents and property records.

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by commercial courses
  • Experience in Clerk II role (preferred)

Duty Examples

Performs advanced, complex, and varied clerical work involving responsibility for the continuous planning, control, and coordination of clerical activity with a department.

Assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of subordinates performing clerical duties; provides advice or assistance in unusual administrative problems; and, trains and guides members of clerical team.

Assists in the preparation and monitoring of capital and/or operating budgets; monitors expenditures and verifies allocation to appropriate accounts; and, investigates variances between budgets and actual expenditures and notifies superiors of potential cost overruns/shortfalls.

Maintains a corporate records system in accordance with established standards and procedures; establishes new files and recommends establishment of new classifications.
