RECENT UPDATES

The Township of Langley is working to carefully implement changes stemming from the Provincial Government's four-phased BC’s Restart Plan. All decisions on opening will be considered in the context of employee health and safety, WorkSafeBC regulations, community focus and public confidence, and financial impact/viability. While health and safety are the primary focus, it is important to note that as programs and services are assessed for re-opening, non-essential operations and programs that have been reduced may not be resumed if they are not financially viable. We will do our best to provide clear information, as available, so check back regularly for updates. Please understand that calling or emailing Parks and Recreation will not result in additional information. Thank you for your patience. Read more.

Property Taxes

  • To provide relief to property owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Township Council has reduced the 2020 Property Tax increase by more than half and modified late payment penalty dates and rates. Visit the property tax page to learn more.

Public Health Order Compliance

The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General is utilizing powers under the Emergency Program Act to keep British Columbians safe and support the Province’s ongoing response to COVID-19. On March 26, a ministerial order that enables bylaw officers to support enforcement of the provincial health officer’s orders was enacted.

Burning Permits

  • In the Township of Langley, depending on conditions, burning permits are usually available in the spring and fall for residents who meet the conditions of the Fire Bylaw. As a result of burning restrictions implemented by Metro Vancouver and Government Ministries over the past two months, the spring burning season in the Township has closed. Burning permit issuance will be revisited in the fall.

Garbage, Green Cart, and Recycling

  • All waste collection services are proceeding on scheduled days.
  • Please maintain physical distance and do not approach collection staff.
  • Gloves, masks, wipes, etc., MUST be bagged. If someone in your household is ill, double bag these items.  Garbage carts with loose debris of this nature will not be picked up.
  • Paper towels and napkins should be disposed as garbage until further notice. Other food soiled paper (ex. coffee filters and paper take out containers) can go in your Green Cart.
  • Residents are reminded households who produce extra garbage must purchase Extra Garbage stickers for $3 per bag or can. Call 604-534-3211 to arrange for purchase, with delivery by Canada Post.
  • Avoid ‘spring cleaning’ and only make essential trips to the region’s transfer stations and depots. Visit Metro Vancouver’s Transfer Stations and Landfills page for information on changes to their operations.
  • Minimize garbage by reviewing what is accepted in the Township’s unlimited recycling and Green Cart programs.
  • Sign up to receive service alerts by entering your address at tol.ca/calendar

Due to COVID-19, the Adopt-a-Program is temporarily suspended.

  • The Township will no longer be picking up waste from cleanups or supplying refill equipment. Participants will be notified when regular operations resume.
  • One-time cleanup and new adoption applications are not being accepted at this time.

Council Meetings

  • Council Meetings: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing measures, Township of Langley Council has moved to electronic Council meetings. Regular Council meetings and public hearings have been replaced with Special Council meetings which will be held as required, with Council members participating remotely. View the council calendar for upcoming Special Council meeting dates as they are scheduled.
  • Special Council Meetings: These meetings will only be available online and the public can view the proceedings from home.
  • Special Meetings for the Purpose of a Public Hearing: Written submissions are encouraged as attendance will be limited. Relevant background material may be viewed here and submitted by email.
  • All Council advisory committees are suspended until further notice.

Community Development and Engineering

  • Engineering and Community Development customer service counters at the Civic Facility are closed for in person transactions. Staff are available via phone or email.
  • The Operations Centre main entrance is closed to customers. Staff are available via phone or email. This does not impact deliveries to Stores.

Permits and Inspections

  • Staff continue to process applications and inspection requests, but are changing the way we deliver service. Staff will contact applicants regarding next steps related to fees, documentation, issuance and inspection delivery.
  • Continue to book required inspections, but be aware that some building inspections are currently suspended. This does not alleviate the requirement for inspections to occur.
  • Engineering related permits can be submitted via email to enginfo@tol.ca. Staff will follow up regarding application fee submission at a later date.
  • Permit processing and issuance timing may be delayed as we work to refine methods to provide service.
  • Community Development and Building Permit related applications can be deposited in the small drop box outside the main first floor entrance or in the larger drop box beside the second floor entrance at the Township Civic Facility. If you have questions, contact:
