Christmas Tree Disposal Options

When the holiday season ends and it’s time to take down the decorations and say goodbye to your Christmas tree, instead of sending your Christmas tree to the landfill, choose a more sustainable method to dispose of your tree.
Tree chipping is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of your tree. Several local not-for-profit organizations and clubs run tree chipping events after the holidays.
Is your community group hosting a tree-chipping event in the Township? Join the list! Contact 778-288-4193 before Thursday, December 19 for consideration.

Bring your tree to a Recycling and Waste Facility
Take your tree to a Recycling and Waste Centre for composting. A minimum $10 fee applies to organic waste. Find a Recycling and Waste Centre near you.
Double check for left over decorations
While decorations help make your tree feel festive for the season, only trees free from decor are accepted at chipping events and Recycling and Waste Centres. Before taking your tree for disposal, be sure to remove all ornaments, tinsel, or other decorations. Think you’ve got them all? Check one more time. Chipped up ornaments pose a safety concern for crews handling Christmas tree disposal.
Did you flock your tree this year? Flocked trees should be disposed of as garbage.
Looking to get rid of an artificial tree instead? If it’s still in good shape, consider donating it to a local donation centre. Artificial trees no longer full of holiday cheer should be disposed of as garbage.
