Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event 2025
The Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event returns in September for Township of Langley residents to conveniently dispose of household hazardous waste items which traditionally have limited disposal options. Residents can drop off items such as pesticides, flammable liquids, motor oil, propane tanks, solvents, and more at the George Preston Recreation Centre from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2025.
“Year-round drop off options for some hazardous waste items have improved since last year’s event,” said Christopher Combe, Environmental Sustainability Coordinator for the Township of Langley. “Motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, paint, pesticides, and flammable liquids are now accepted for free at the Langley Recycling and Waste Centre, run by Metro Vancouver, at 1070 – 272 Street. These items, along with other hazardous materials, can be dangerous if they are disposed of improperly in the trash, buried, flushed down the toilet, or poured down the sink.”
Once again, this year’s free event returns to the east parking lot of George Preston Recreation Centre, located at 20699 - 42 Avenue. Access to the drop-off area is via southbound on 208 Street only. This event is for Township of Langley residents only and proof of Township residency is required (e.g. ID, property tax statement or utility bill). Visitors are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items for the Aldergrove Food Bank.
During the event, staff will unload waste from vehicles, but only items retrievable from truck beds or vehicle trunks/hatches will be accepted. Items passed through doors or windows will not be accepted and walk-ins are not permitted. All liquid items must be in secure containers and cannot be leaking. Anyone planning to attend is encouraged to review the preferred packing order information at tol.ca/hhw before loading their vehicles.
The Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event attracted over a thousand vehicles last year, and lineups are possible.
“Prior to the event, we encourage residents to use our ‘What Goes Where’ tool on tol.ca/recycle to find out if the items they plan to drop off at the event are accepted at local depots or retailers for free, year-round recycling and disposal,” Combe said. “Some of the most common items dropped-off at the event, such as motor oil, batteries, smoke alarms, and electronics have convenient no-charge drop-off options available thanks to provincial recycling programs.”
