Langley Regional Airport conducts emergency response exercise
Standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness and response readiness are extremely important for the safe and effective operations of an airport, and this also applies to smaller airports including Langley Regional Airport located in the Township of Langley on 216 Street between 56 Avenue and Fraser Highway.
In support of operations, the Langley Regional Airport (YNJ) conducted an emergency preparedness and response exercise on November 24, 2025 to test their safety protocols and overall responsiveness. Related actions from onsite partners, local first responders, and Township staff were also be tested during this coordinated exercise.
This emergency exercise is also being conducted to fulfill regulatory compliance requirements under Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and to validate the Langley Regional Airport Emergency Response Plan.
Langley Regional Airport in coordination with NavCanada, the Township of Langley Fire Department, Langley RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, Township Communications, and StandardAero, an aerospace services company located on the airport grounds, staged a helicopter crash emergency response exercise that occurred on Monday, Nov 24 at 11:19am.
“Langley Regional Airport prides itself on being one of the busiest regional airports for helicopter traffic and maintenance support services, and it is important that we continue to maintain and enhance our safety protocols through exercises like this. It also helps us fulfill regulatory compliance requirements and supports our vision for future growth and innovation,” said Patrick Sihota, Airport Manager, Langley Regional Airport.
Airport management and the Township of Langley made users and the public aware of this exercise through media and other communications channels to reduce possible fear and confusion if people notice smoke and noise coming from the airport. Those special effects were all part of the exercise and there was no risk to the public or airport users.
