Public Spaces Permit Application Process
To maintain the safety and enjoyment of public spaces in the Township of Langley for all users, the Township adopted Public Spaces Regulation Bylaw No. 6059. This bylaw regulates the use of parks to ensure the protection of the natural environment, trees, animals, and park users.
A revised public spaces permit application process accompanies the adoption of the bylaw. Community groups, sports teams, and other park users may find they are required to apply for a public spaces permit where a public spaces permit was not previously required.
Organizers require a valid public spaces permit when their use of public space will include 100 participants or more. Public spaces permits are also required if users are participating in restricted activities in a public space, such as:
- Setting up temporary or permanent shelters, buildings, or structures
- Parachuting
- Moving plants or vegetation
- Conducting research
- Holding an event outside of standard hours (standard hours are typically dawn to dusk)
- Commercial activities (e.g. erecting advertising or signage, selling goods or services)
Or bringing restricted items to a public space, such as:
- Fireworks (in compliance with Fire Prevention Bylaw No. 6061
- Liquor
- Motorized toys
- Unmanned aerial vehicles (e.g. drones)
- Outside or composted organic waste
Submit applications for special events at least 30 days prior to commencement of the event. For any other activity requiring a permit, submit applications at least 14 days in advance. View the public spaces permit application form.
