Smith Athletic Park Outdoor Fields Open
Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward, Councillors, and dignitaries from the Langley United Soccer Association joined soccer players and their families to officially open three new three synthetic fields at Smith Athletic Park on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
“It’s great to see phase one of Smith Athletic Park finished, helping to address the demand for youth soccer that continues to grow each and every year, and will continue to do so in the years ahead. It is the Township’s third athletic park in Willoughby and will serve over 1,900 students at the adjacent Smith Middle and High Schools that will be constructed next door. Hundreds of kids in Langley are on waiting lists to play soccer, and the list is only getting longer, currently. We are addressing that head-on. We have to make sure that anyone in the Township of Langley that wants to play sports, especially our youth, can do so,” said Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward.
Phase two of the project will include a new indoor soccer field and training facility.
"Smith Athletic Park’s opening is such a joyful moment for our association and the heart of Langley. These new fields mean every child in our community has a welcoming place to play, make friends, and build confidence through sport. Families will come together and create lasting memories on the sidelines. Soon, with the indoor phase, everyone will have a chance to belong and play, whatever the weather. This isn’t just about soccer—it’s about opening doors and ensuring every kid and family can feel at home in our community, every season," said Langley United Soccer Association Executive Director Marcel Horn.
Games and training are happening at the fields near 76 Avenue and 208A Street. Shelters for players and officials, as well as a grandstand and more community amenities will be added at the 20 acre park.
