Animal Control
Domesticated animal control services
The Township of Langley now delivers Animal Control services — bringing our community closer to a safer, more caring future for residents and their animals. Our Officers are passionate about promoting public safety, and fostering responsible pet ownership through education, outreach, and enforcement of Animal Control Bylaw No. 6140.
Our vision is simple: a Township where people and animals live together in harmony — where pets are cared for, wildlife is respected, and public spaces are safe for everyone.
Service transition
The Township is providing Animal Control services, and continues to work with the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) to fully transition the provision of those services. We are working in partnership with LAPS to ensure every impounded animal receives proper care until reunited with its owner. Together, we provide a seamless service that prioritizes safety, compassion, and community trust.
Impounded animals
If your animal is picked up by one of our officers, it will be cared for at LAPS until you are able to reclaim it. Please call 604-857-5055 to arrange an appointment for pick-up. Depending on the circumstances, you may be redirected to an Animal Control Officer before the release of your pet.
What we do
Our Animal Control Officers are highly trained professionals dedicated to keeping our community safe. We respond to concerns such as:
- dogs or livestock running at large (roaming unattended without control)
- dog bites to a person or another animal
- nuisance dog issues (off-leash in restricted areas, continuous barking)
- dogs left in hot vehicles or transported in unsafe conditions
Every call is handled with discretion — all complaints are confidential, and anonymous reports are not accepted.
For issues involving wild birds and other wildlife please contact the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC.
How to file a complaint
- Call 604-532-7551 during business hours or complete the Animal Control Complaint Form. Your information is protected under the privacy act and will not be shared.
- Provide details and evidence (photos, times, videos) if available — but never put yourself at risk.
- For barking dog complaints, complete both the Barking Dog Log and Property Use Complaint Form.
