Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, also known as Licence Plate recognition, provides automated detection of vehicle licence plates. An ALPR is used by Bylaw Enforcement Officer’s to monitor vehicles that are parked within time restricted zones and have stayed beyond the posted time limit.

How does an ALPR work?

An ALPR system, which is mounted on a bylaw vehicle, drives by vehicles parked within a time restricted zone The ALPR system automatically captures an image of a vehicle's licence plate Wheel imaging cameras digitally chalk a vehicle, collecting evidence (photo and gps coordinates) for future follow up Upon a follow up drive through of the time restricted zone, the ALPR will identify and alert a bylaw officer of a violation A bylaw officer may enforce a violation by issuing a bylaw offence notice

The automated licence plate reader collects personal information in accordance as permitted under Section 26 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Only staff with the authority to access the information will have access for ticketing purposes.
