Business Licences
The online application system is temporarily down for maintenance. To apply for a new licence, please complete a Business Licence Application form and e-mail to buslic@tol.ca.
All businesses operating in the Township of Langley, including home-based, commercial, and industrial businesses, must have a valid Business Licence. This also applies to businesses from other municipalities working in the Township, such as contractors.
Inspections such as Building and Fire Department may be required before approval; therefore, new or relocating businesses should allow at least 30 business days for processing.
Licences are only valid for the listed property and cannot be transferred if ownership changes.
Applying for a Business Licence

Find the required checklists and forms under your category.
Inter-municipal (Fraser Valley)
For trades contractors and construction-related professionals with a valid Township of Langley Business Licence.
Non-resident
For businesses without a physical location in the Township but providing services within it.
Retail, Commercial, Industrial, Other
For businesses with a permanent location in the Township, including restaurants, offices, retail stores, warehouses, manufacturing, rentals, and non-profits.
If the business licence you are applying for is not home based, non-resident or intermunicipal, choose Retail/Commercial/Industrial/Other.

How much does a business licence cost? |

How do I renew my business licence? |
Starting in 2025, business licences will be issued annually and expire on December 31. Renewal notices are sent at the beginning of December, and payments are due by January 31. Most licences can be renewed online. |
What happens if I don’t renew my business licence on time? |
A 5% penalty will be added to unpaid licence fees 30 days after the due date, with an additional 5% penalty after 90 days. |

What if my business changes ownership? |
Business licences are not transferable. If ownership changes, you must apply for a new business licence. |
What if my business changes location? |
If your active business, currently licensed in the Township of Langley, is relocating within the Township, you may apply to transfer your business licence to the new location online. Ensure your business is a permitted use on the Lands as per the Township of Langley Zoning Bylaw. Please be aware that inspections may be required before approval. It is recommended to submit your application at least one month prior to the planned relocation. |
How do I update my trade name? |
To update your trade name, for example, your company is now incorporated, email buslic@tol.ca. |
How do I update my business contact information? |
To update your business contact details or mailing address, email buslic@tol.ca. If ownership changes, a new licence application is required. |
What should I do if my business closes? |
If your business has ceased operations, notify the Township of Langley in writing so that your licence account can be closed. Requests can be sent to buslic@tol.ca. |
