Garbage Cart
The Township of Langley offers garbage collection to those properties within our garbage collection area. If your property is outside of the garbage collection area, see Waste Services for Rural Properties.
What goes inside
Garbage carts should only contain items that are not accepted in the Green Cart, curbside recycling program, or cannot be taken back to a recycling depot. Individual garbage items must not exceed 2.5 metres (8.2 feet) in length or 1.2 metres in width. Wondering where a specific item goes? Try our What Goes Where? tool.
If your garbage wasn't picked up or is delayed
First, check for a tag. A tag may indicate if garbage couldn’t be picked up because it contained unaccepted items or if it is extra garbage that needs an Extra Garbage Sticker. If no tag was left, call the Township's garbage contractor, Sierra Waste Services Ltd., at 604-530-3939.
Banned materials
Certain materials are banned from Metro Vancouver disposal facilities. Bans are in place on items that are:
- Recyclable
- Compostable
- Hazardous to collection workers, the public, and the environment
If banned materials are found in your garbage, it will not be collected.
Pet waste can be hazardous, and is listed as prohibited. However, small quantities may be double-bagged (with air removed) and disposed of in the garbage. To see preferred options for disposing of waste from dogs, cats and other pets, visit Metro Vancouver’s website.
Household hazardous waste can be disposed of year-round at various facilities.
