Sustainability Grant Pilot Program

The Sustainability Grant Pilot Program was launched in April 2022. The Program encourages residents and eligible organizations to undertake creative, equitable, and community-driven projects that:

• Have a positive impact on the environment
• Decrease greenhouse gas emissions; and
• Improve community resiliency to climate change

Grants of up to $500 were available for resident projects, and up to $2,000 was available for eligible organizations’ projects.

In its first year, the Program received a total of 15 applications and funding was fully subscribed. A snapshot of projects include:

• A sustainability-themed neighbourhood event with electric vehicles, rain garden information, and local trail and ecosystem information
• Free reduce-and-reuse art classes for children
• Re-wilding a front yard and turning it into an educational display for neighbours

Climate Action Strategy

This project was identified as one of over 140 actions outlined in the Climate Action Strategy.
