Volunteer with Emergency Support Services (ESS)
The Township of Langley is excited to launch our Emergency Support Services (ESS) Program and we are looking for volunteers for this important program. Read more information on being a volunteer below and consider applying.

Requirements
- Be 19 years or older.
- Obtain and maintain an acceptable Police Information/ Vulnerable sector check.
- Have a current and Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, and access to a vehicle.
- Maintain the minimum number of engagement and training hours a quarter (TBD).
- Successfully complete 6-month probationary period.
Activities
- Deploy locally, regionally, and provincially to support emergency response, in-person or virtually.
- Evaluate the needs of those impacted by emergency and coordinate the provision of services with community partners and businesses through referrals and community-based programs.
- Ensure supports are provided within the guidelines of the ESS program.
- Participate in events that help the community to be better prepared, connected, and resilient.
- Attend training and exercises highlighting knowledge sharing and skill and relationship building.

- Be evacuee centred, communicative, flexible, dependable, and team oriented.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Interest in Public Safety, Emergency Management and Community disaster preparedness
- Ability to be "on-call," and available 24/7 to attend and/or coordinate ESS responses.
- Ability to attend required training and exercises.
- Ability to interact successfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to respond in a timely and calm manner under duress and strain.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, supervisory, customer service, and team-building skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment, think critically, and problem solve.
- Demonstrated proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
