Township Hits The Street To Gauge Business Beat

An opportunity to get out in the community and connect with local businesses will be held by the Township of Langley as it pounds the pavement, looking for insight.

The 2019 Business Walk will be conducted by the Township’s Economic Investment and Development Department between October 15 and 18, during Small Business Month in BC. Teams will take to the commercial areas of North West Langley, Walnut Grove, and Willoughby to gather information on business successes, barriers, and opportunities.

“Langley Township is committed to attracting, retaining, and expanding business in our community, and Business Walks are an excellent way to get out and meet with owners face to face, get a feel for their issues, concerns, and ideas, and form the vital relationships that help ensure our economy continues to thrive,” said Senior Manager of Economic Investment and Development, Val Gafka. “We’re very excited to be partnering with the Walnut Grove Willoughby Business Association to complete this year’s Walk.”

Business Walks were officially launched by the BC Economic Development Association in 2012 is an informal way for elected officials and stakeholders to directly connect, build relationships, and gather information to help stimulate and diversify the local economy. In the Township, the first Walk was held in 2015 in Brookswood, and again in 2016 in Aldergrove.

For this year’s Business Walk, teams will be made up of Township staff, members of Township Council, and stakeholders, including representatives from advisory committees, business organizations, universities, financial institutions, and provincial ministry staff. To learn more, visit

Through an informal chat, owners will be asked four questions during the Walk to gain a pulse on local business. These same questions will also be featured in an online survey that will be open to all business owners in the Township from October 19 to 31 at

Data collected through the Business Walk and survey will remain confidential and be compiled into a report for Mayor and Council.
