Township introduces Vaccination Policy for Employees, Contractors and Volunteers

The Township of Langley announced today that all Township employees, contractors, and volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination by January 14, 2022. This deadline will permit those who have not yet received their first dose of vaccine to become fully vaccinated.

This measure is in keeping with the Township’s obligations to protect the health and safety of employees and to support public health of the community. It is aligned with the recommendation from the provincial health officer that large employers implement vaccine mandates. The provincial health officer has repeatedly advised that vaccination is safe, very effective, and the single most important preventative measure individuals can take to protect themselves and others from infection, severe illness, and possible death from COVID-19.

Those falling under the policy must comply or will not be permitted in Township workplaces. The Township will accommodate individuals who require an exemption from the policy on the basis of a protected legal ground under the BC Human Rights Code.

The details of the policy are being finalized and the policy will be in place on December 1, 2021.

“These requirements are an important part of the workplace health and safety measures that have been implemented by the Township over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. This measure will help protect our employees and members of the public while also best ensuring continuity of service within our community,” says Mark Bakken, Township Administrator. “Members of the public who are 12 and over are required to show proof of vaccination to access many Township services and we want the public to know that we are in this with them and employees, contractors and volunteers in our facilities should meet the same requirements."

The Township continues to follow public health orders and guidance from the Provincial Government, Fraser Health, and WorkSafeBC and makes decisions with respect to safety protocols, pandemic response, and restart activities in the context of health and safety.
