Active Beyond the Bell

Help prepare your child to be active and healthy for life!

Your kids will have a blast in this after school program focussed on physical activity, movement, health, and fun.

Active Beyond the Bell runs for two hours after dismissal in the gymnasium at your school (or via a supervised walk to Walnut Grove Community Centre if your child goes to Alex Hope or James Kennedy). Every month we focus on fundamental movement skills and healthy lifestyle concepts, which can help lead your child towards a healthy, active, and confident life!

Active Beyond the Bell starts September 4. We do not run on the first day of school.

During Kindergarten gradual entry, Active Beyond the Bell starts at it’s regular time. We do not accommodate early pick ups during gradual entry.

We run on regular school days. On early dismissals and half-days, we offer School’s Out Day Camps that run from the dismissal bell until 5:30pm (School’s Out Day Camps are not available at Noel Booth Elementary School.) Prices vary depending on the length of time. On non-instructional days, we offer School’s Out Day Camps at our Community Recreation Centres from 9:00 - 3:00pm with Before care from 8:00-9:00am and After care from 3:00 - 5:30pm.
Each day we focus on fundamental movement skills, activity, and nutrition. Activities are included that introduce or practice these skills in a fun, non-competitive environment. Daily happenings vary to allow for input from the kids, free time, and snacks.
Physical Literacy is the ability to move confidently and competently in a variety of ways on a variety of surfaces. Studies show that children today are not gaining the basic skills to move confidently and competently. Without these skills, children are less likely to participate in sports as a child, and even less likely to participate as an adult. We introduce and practice these skills in a fun environment that focuses on personal development.  As confidence increases so does the probability that kids will learn to be active for live.

All staff go through an interview, reference check, and criminal record check before they are hired. Additionally, all staff must:

  • complete a Township-specific orientation process that includes safety, expectations, and customer service
  • finish program-specific training co leading and facilitating Fundamental Movement skills and increasing physical literacy
