Social sustainability is about people – it is achieved when basic needs are met and opportunities for enhancing human and community capacity exist. Through policy development and collaboration with community members, non-profit groups, and other levels of government, the Township is working to improve the well-being and quality of life of all its residents.

Township to Prepare a Social Sustainability Strategy

In November 2017, Township Council approved the preparation of a Social Sustainability Strategy. Building on the Township’s Sustainability Charter, the Social Sustainability Strategy will help guide the Township’s decisions and resource allocations on social issues over the next ten years. The two-year process to prepare the Strategy will include multiple opportunities for local residents and stakeholders to provide their input and contributions.

Social planning is a process that helps communities work towards social sustainability. Social planning involves working with community members, non-profit groups, and other levels of government to address issues like housing, public safety, and health and wellness.
