Children and Youth

With an excellent blend of community amenities such as parks, recreation facilities, and schools, the Township of Langley is a popular place to raise a family. This webpage highlights just some of the initiatives that enhance the quality of family life and promote child and youth development in the Township.

Community Events

The Township hosts and participates in dozens of community events throughout the year, bringing a child friendly focus to each of them. Whether it be kids planting trees on Arbour Day or learning about our ecosystems on Rivers Day, we strive to ensure our littlest citizens feel like part of our community. Visit the events page for a list of upcoming special events.

Recreational and Cultural Programs

A wide variety of recreational and cultural programs for children and youth are available in each Township community. Check out the current issue of the Leisure Guide for a list of the different programs being offered.

Langley Youth Resource Centre

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2017 at 20285 – 62 Avenue, the new Langley Youth Resource Centre will feature five beds, provide access to a variety of youth-related services and programs, and serve as the new home for the Langley Youth Hub , run by Encompass Support Services Society . This community project was inspired by local youth and is being created by various levels of government, community organizations, partners, and contributors.

Child Friendly Study

In 2005, the Township completed a Child Friendly Study that provided a list of recommendations for developing child friendly communities. A key outcome of this study was an amendment to the Township’s Zoning Bylaw to require the provision of amenity areas (e.g. children’s play areas) in new townhouse and apartment developments.
