Age- and Dementia-friendly Action Plan

We are a BC Age-friendly Community!

Like most other communities in BC, the Township of Langley’s population is aging. The Age- and Dementia-friendly Action Plan was updated and approved by Council in 2021 to help the Township meet the needs of its older residents and provide benefits to the entire community. In recognition of the increasing number of people living with dementia due to population aging, the Action Plan includes a dementia-friendly perspective.

Based on its age-friendly initiatives, the Township of Langley has been formally recognized as an age-friendly community by the Province of BC.

Active and Engaged Aging

The Township supports various ways for seniors to keep active and engaged in the community.

About Dementia

Dementia is an overall term for a set of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain, including memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language, severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Aging does not cause dementia. While mild changes in cognition may come with aging, dementia is not a normal part of the aging process. However, age is the strongest known risk factor for dementia, though some younger people, in their 40s or 50s, are diagnosed with early onset dementia.
