Our Fire Department

Committed to protecting life, property, and the environment, the Township’s Fire Department comprises of career members, paid-call crews, and administrative staff who respond to fires, vehicle crashes and other emergencies. The division coordinates emergency planning, prevents fires through education and planning, conducts fire investigations, and trains staff, the public and other agencies.

From lending a paw to the firefighters, to teaching children how to stop, drop and roll, to showing families the importance of having working smoke alarms, Asher is always on duty! Be sure to watch out for Asher at community events around the Township.

Public education

Our Public Safety and Community Risk Officers provide educational services predominantly focused on fire prevention and life safety to reduce and prevent fires from occurring. This is accomplished through in-person fire and life safety programs and via the website, social media, bus shelter ads, emails and other digital formats.

Public Safety and Community Risk Officers, in collaboration with property owners, engineers, architects, and the Township's Building and Planning Departments, work diligently to correct hazards and raise fire safety awareness through inspections, permits, plan reviews, and enforcement.

Prevent wildfires

The first step to preparing your home for wildfires is to learn about what you and your community can do to prepare for one. Planning and preparation are key to being fire safe. Take preventive measures against fire hazards by using non-combustible building materials, clearing vegetation, and removing combustible items around structures. Also, create space between tree crowns and maintain a non-combustible ground cover. Regularly clean up debris to eliminate potential fire fuels.

Discover our Fire Halls

Fire protection and backup emergency medical services are provided to the citizens of the Township from seven fire halls located throughout the Township. We have Fire Halls located across the Township: Murrayville, Fort Langley, Aldergrove, Willoughby, Brookswood, Otter, and Walnut Grove.
