What is salishan Place by the River?

salishan Place by the River is a 40,000 square foot arts, culture and heritage centre featuring a museum with collection storage, four multi-purpose rooms, a printmaking studio, a research room, coffee shop, gift shop, an Indigenous Garden, and outdoor amphitheatre.

Additionally, there are conference and special event amenities including a reception hall, presentation theatre, a rooftop patio, and kitchen.

salishan Place by the River is also the home of the new Fort Langley Library.
When will the rest of salishan open?

The Fort Langley Library in salishan opened on Saturday, February 8, 2025. For library hours visit fvrl.bc.ca.

salishan’s first feature exhibit Langley: Many Voices, Shared Place will open to the public on Saturday, June 27. The museum’s collection, which includes over 23,000 objects, is in progress to being moved into the building.

What kinds of programs are offered here?

Arts, culture and heritage programs are now offered at salishan. We are continuing to plan and design more programming for all ages, interests, skills and abilities. Programs are delivered by Arts and Culture Instructors, Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, Museum Docents, and Township Staff.

What is the plan for the museum and exhibits?
salishan’s first feature exhibit, Langley: Many Voices, Shared Place, opens to the public on Saturday, June 27. Enjoy free admission opening weekend on June 27 and June 28.
What exhibits will you have? Will it be the same exhibits you had at Langley Centennial Museum?
Our main gallery will feature exhibits highlighting stories from our shared history. The feature gallery will host shorter duration rotating exhibits on arts, culture and heritage.
Can I view the collection in the museum?

salishan’s first feature exhibit, Langley: Many Voices, Shared Place, will feature certain objects from the museum’s collection on display.

Our research room is closed to the public while we move our collection to salishan. The museum’s collection is accessible online through our online database. Explore our collections.

The cost of individual program registrations and special events will vary. The Fort Langley Library and Indigenous Garden are free to visit. When the Research Room opens, it will also be free to visit.

What will happen in the different spaces?

The various spaces in salishan Place by the River were designed with flexibility and usability in mind. Here are some of the primary uses that were envisioned:

  • Main Gallery (1st floor) – main museum exhibits
  • Feature Gallery (2nd floor) – rotating arts, cultural and heritage exhibits
  • Multi-purpose Rooms – arts and culture programs, classes, birthday parties and private bookings
  • Printmaking Studio – arts workshops, programs, and classes
  • Research Room – publicly accessible research space for exploring the museum collection
  • Reception Hall and Rooftop Venue – conferences, weddings and other private booking
  • Presentation Theatre – speakers, film screenings, and performing arts
  • Indigenous Garden – interpretive walk through culturally significant / medicinal plants
  • Outdoor Amphitheatre – Live music, “street” festivals, markets and food trucks
Where can I park?
Currently there is street parking in the area surrounding salishan. The underground parkade is open during business hours for guests of salishan Place by the river. Please note that the parkade gate closes and locks at the end of salishan Place by the River business hours.
What spaces are available to rent?
Many spaces throughout salishan are available to rent, including, the theatre, reception hall and lounge, the rooftop events space, four multi-purpose rooms, the outdoor amphitheatre and the lobby. View room and rental information.
