salishan Place by the River Planning
salishan Place by the River is the Township of Langley's new arts, culture and heritage facility in Fort Langley being developed in partnership with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), Máthkwi (Matsqui) and se’mya’me (Semiahmoo) First Nations, and other community organizations.
This unique three-storey building will share and celebrate the voices and stories of community members, encouraging interactive and inclusive experiences for visitors of all ages. salishan Place will be the new home of the museum and Fort Langley Library. It will provide indoor and outdoor community gathering spaces, including a reception hall and presentation theatre.
Construction for this facility is now underway thanks to support received through the British Columbia Arts Council Infrastructure program, the BC Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure program and the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.

salishan Place by the River in Fort Langley is under construction with a planned opening in late 2023. The project is being developed in partnership with q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen) First Nation, and in collaboration with partners including q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation, Máthkwi (Matsqui) First Nation and se’mya’me (Semiahmoo) First Nation.
The name salishan Place by the River reflects its physical location within the collective territories of the mainland Coast Salish peoples. It acknowledges hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and halq'eméylem, the Salish language dialects spoken here.
