Little Campbell River ISMP
Overview
The Township of Langley’s Sustainability Charter aims to conserve and enhance our environment, promote stewardship and increase biodiversity and natural capital.
An Integrated Stormwater Management Plan (ISMP) helps to achieve these goals by ensuring that changes in a watershed, resulting from development, maintain and promote the overall health of a watershed. An ISMP integrates land use, stormwater management and environmental values to direct future activities in each Township watershed, where significant development is expected to take place.
The findings and recommendations of the ISMPs guide the implementation of Neighbourhood and Community Plans.
Background
Little Campbell River Watershed ISMP update for urban areas
The Township is home to the headwaters of the Little Campbell River and nearly half of its 7,600-ha catchment. Once it leaves the Township, the river travels through several jurisdictions including the City of Surrey, the City of White Rock, and Semiahmoo First Nation Reserve No.1, before discharging to Semiahmoo Bay.
The Fernridge neighbourhood as well as portions of the Glenwood and Booth neighbourhoods comprise the urban area in the Little Campbell River watershed. In 2014, the Township developed an ISMP for most of the urban area. Following recent updates to the Fernridge and Booth Neighborhood Plans, to achieve alignment with the provincial “small-scale multi-unit housing” legislation, the Township has initiated a process to update the previous ISMP. The update will provide guidance on how to proceed with future land development and redevelopment while protecting the overall ecological health of the watershed. View a map of the study area here.
The ISMP Update is an opportunity to:
- review key objectives and issues from the previous ISMP work and determine if past priority issues have changed, worsened, or improved
- review progress of past ISMP implementation and incorporate learnings on implementation barriers and opportunities into future planning
