Recreation

• Provide information to the public.
• Oversee patron conduct during Public Skate or Public Swim to ensure safety.
• Maintain ticket and cash control.
• Set-up and take down duties for events or activities.
• Prepare and sell food and beverage items (some positions).

• Emergency First Aid (minimum)
• CPR certification

• Grade 10 Completion
• Related experience in an arena or aquatic environment
• Ability to skate or swim proficiently
• Food Safe Level 1 (some positions)

Auxiliary employees - A

Regular part-time employees - RPT

• Assist in planning, developing, and scheduling specific recreation programs, services and special events.
• Direct the implementation of program activities.
• Provide leadership and instruction.
• Assess program results and recommend changes as necessary.  
• Assign and supervise auxiliary staff.
• Provide orientation and training.
• Participate in staff selection and evaluation.

• Emergency First Aid
• CPR certification
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

• Grade 12 Completion
• HIGH FIVE Training
• Completion of two-year program in Recreation at a recognized Community College
• Related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Auxiliary employees - A

• Monitor participants of drop-in programs or special events.
• Supervise non-instructional activities.
• Participate in program activities.
• Provide information to the public regarding programs/facilities.
• Ensure patrons are acting appropriately in a recreation facility (may include monitoring equipment usage).

• Emergency First Aid (minimum)
• CPR certification
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (some positions)

• Grade 10 Completion
• HIGH FIVE Training
• Sports Coaching or Early Childhood Education Certification
• Experience working with the public, preferably in a recreational environment

Auxiliary employees - A

• Lead recreational programs and activities for participants of all ages.
• Assist in the instruction of participants. 
• Ensure equipment is used safely. 
• Provide information to the public regarding programs/facilities.

• Emergency First Aid (minimum)
• CPR certification
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence

• Grade 10 Completion
• HIGH FIVE Training
• Sports Coaching or Early Childhood Education Certification
• Experience working with the public, preferably in a recreational environment
• Related volunteer or instructional experience in a recreational environment
• Have some knowledge of community recreation principles, practices and objectives

Auxiliary employees - A

• Provide leadership and instruction for a variety of recreation programs to participants of all ages.  
• Create lesson plans to organize, lead, participate in, assist and/or independently instruct programs.

• Emergency First Aid (minimum)
• CPR certification
• Early Childhood Education Certificate (some positions)
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (some positions)

• Grade 10 Completion
• HIGH FIVE Training
• Sports Coaching or Early Childhood Education Certification
• Some related instructional experience in a recreational environment

Auxiliary employees - A

• Organize, plan, and implement a licensed preschool child care program.
• Direct the implementation of program activities and supervise program assistants.  
• Maintain records. 
• Inform parents of child’s activities and any concerns.
• Provide guidance and advice to parents as required.

• CPR Certification
• Valid Class 5 (full privilege) British Columbia Driver's Licence

• Grade 12 Completion
