Aldergrove Skateboard Park Engagement
Outcome
Upgrades to the Aldergrove Skateboard Park are complete and the renovated skateboard park opened in May 2023.
These upgrades continue the modernization of the skateboard park and feature a new linear lane for a longer, continuous riding surface including a banked hip, A-frame, funbox and quarter pipes. These features complement the clover bowl that was replaced in the first stage of this project in 2021.
Public feedback on proposed skateboard park design concepts was received in December 2022. Public were able to provide feedback in-person by filling out a survey at an Open House at the Aldergrove Library or by completing an online version of the survey.
Survey results were compiled, and design concepts were advanced to Council in January 2023.
Phase two- completed
Survey results
Most survey respondents preferred the Linear Lane design concept. This design creates a separate, longer continuous concrete surface that can be ridden end to end, providing users the ability to ride smoothly throughout the skateboard park at higher speed with minimal interruption and less pushing.
Respondents also preferred flowing street terrain which involves changes in elevation and higher speed riding. This terrain style will offer smooth connectivity between new features and the existing bowl, which was reconstructed in 2021.
Final design and site plan
This next phase entails removing a portion of the existing asphalt skateboard park and replacing it with a new concrete one. The phase two final design and site plan integrates survey feedback and continues the modernization of the park and will provide beginners with an environment to learn and grow, while presenting experienced riders with features to further develop their skills.

Construction will begin in April with upgrades expected to be completed by summer 2023. This work is weather dependent and may be extended or postponed as required.

Phase one - completed
The Township of Langley surveyed the public to gather feedback on upgrading the Aldergrove Skateboard Park.
Two opportunities to share your thoughts
Open House
An Open House was held on Tuesday, December 13 at the Aldergrove Library where people provided feedback by filling out a survey. There was also the opportunity to speak with staff and skatepark designers as well as view display boards detailing the proposed skateboard park concepts.
Online survey
For those unable to attend the Open House, there was the opportunity to provide feedback online by viewing the display boards and completing an online version of the survey. All feedback submissions were due by Wednesday, December 21 at 11:59pm.
Aldergrove Skateboard Park proposed design concepts
There are two design options for the skateboard park:
- Corner plaza. This design utilizes more of the built-up area in the corner to create a plaza style terrace connected to the bowl with stairs, a hubba ledge, handrail, manual pad, and bank ramps that flow onto the existing asphalt paving.
- Linear lane. This design creates a separate, longer continuous concrete surface that can be ridden end to end and includes a banked hip, A-frame, funbox and quarter pipe turnaround.
There are two street terrain styles that could be integrated into design option 1 (corner plaza) or design option 2 (linear lane):
- Flowing street terrain. This terrain style features involve changes in elevation and generate higher speed riding and includes features like banks, hips, stairs and handrails, funboxes, A-frames, volcanoes and quarter pipes.
- Technical street terrain. This terrain style features require more pushing and jumping from flat terrain and include flat ledges and rails, manual pads, slappy banks and barriers, curbs and parking blocks, textured and sculptural features.

The online survey has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.
The results of the survey will inform next steps for design of the Aldergrove Skateboard Park.
