Overview
The Township of Langley (Township) is updating its current Master Transportation Plan from 2009. The existing plan provides limited guidance on active and sustainable transportation, and it does not consider the arrival of the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain (SLS) and Langley-Haney Place Bus Rapid Transit (LHP BRT) to the Township and neighbouring municipalities.
The new Transportation and Mobility Strategy (TMS) will be a comprehensive guide to renewing and enhancing transportation infrastructure that will keep pace with our dynamic, growing community.
The TMS also uses
Vision Zero principles to identify safety issues and recommend improvements including infrastructure for persons of all ages and abilities. In addition, the TMS considers issues such as equity and climate change.
The plan incorporates multiple modes of transportation including:
- walking (including travelling by wheelchair or motorized assistive device)
- cycling and micromobility (e.g. e-scooters and other one-person electric devices)
- transit (e.g. bus, SkyTrain and BRT)
- driving / carpooling
It also integrates related Township policies and strategies such as complete streets, slow streets, active transportation, transit-oriented development (TOD), Transportation Demand Management (TDM), parking and curbside management, emerging mobility modes, goods movement, and urban and rural street design guidelines.
