Freedom of Information and Data Use
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) helps promote good Township government by balancing the following principles:
Freedom of Information (FOI)
- The public has the right to access government information.
- Whenever possible, information held by the Township of Langley should be available to the public.
Protection of Privacy (POP)
- Individuals have the right to have their personal information protected.
- The Township should not improperly collect or disclose personal information.
Request for records
Some municipal records are protected from full disclosure under the Act. For these instances, a formal, written request for the records can be made.
Prior to submitting your request, note the requirements and limitations of the Act at the top of the form, including the ramifications of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to write your request.
Make a request by filling out a Request for Access to Records form, which is also available from service counters at Township facilities. Requests are processed as quickly as possible, and within the 30-working day time frame specified in the Act. If the record is old or involves significant staff research time, the municipality may require an extension of 30 working days.
Section 75 of the Act and Section 7 of the FOI regulations allow for fees and charges related to processing FOI requests.
Please note that intersection cameras in the Township of Langley are real time only cameras and recordings are not made or retained.
