Application process
How do I apply for a position with the Township?
We have an online application system that is simple and easy to use – applications are only accepted through the online system.
How do I create a profile? 
See this document.
Can I apply for a position late or past the application deadline date? 
All applications are accepted through the online system exclusively; therefore, we are unable to accept applications after the deadline. We suggest you create My Profile and keep your online profile up to date, including having a copy of your resume, cover letter and all related certifications saved under the Documents section. We also encourage you to sign up for the Career Alerts to ensure you can apply quickly and easily the next time a suitable position is available.
If I am interested in several positions with the Township, do I need to submit an application for each posting? 
Every competition is considered separately. If you are applying for several positions, please submit a separate application for each position. Ensure that the position you are applying for is clearly identified on all correspondence.
Do I have to answer all pre-screening questions, even if the answers are in my resume? 
Yes, it is best to answer all pre-screening questions to the best of your ability. Fields with an asterisk(*) are mandatory and will need to be completed.
Do I need to include a cover letter for each position? 
A cover letter is recommended for each position. It allows applicants to provide a general introduction to their resume and to highlight why they are qualified for the position to which they are applying.
Who should I address my cover letter to?
A number of individuals are involved in each recruitment process. We ask that you address your cover letter to: Human Resources Division.
After I apply for a position, what happens next? 
After a career opportunity closes, applications are reviewed to determine those that meet the education requirements, skills, abilities and experience indicated on the job posting. Those who most closely match the requirements in the posting may be considered for shortlisting. Due to the large number of applicants, only those considered for the position will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates are contacted by phone or email to participate in the hiring process.
Do you accept email applications? 
We have an online application system that is simple and easy to use – applications are only accepted through the online system.
How are applicants assessed? 
All applicants are assessed relative to the qualifications listed on the job posting. When you submit your application online, you may be asked additional screening questions to further assess your qualification for the position. Only those applicants who meet the stated qualifications are eligible for further consideration. Due to the large number of applications we receive, meeting the minimum qualifications of the posting does not guarantee you will be shortlisted for the posted position.
Recruitment process
When will I be contacted?
Shortlisted individuals will be contacted in the weeks following the posting deadline. Candidates will be contacted either by telephone or an interview invitation will be emailed to you to the email provided in My Profile. You will need to login and go to the Interview section to select the time/date for the interview. To receive email notifications from Human Resources regarding the employment process, please sign up for ‘Email Communication’ under My Profile section. Due to the large number of applications we receive, only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Do I have to take any tests as part of the recruitment process?
Each recruitment process may be different, but as a general rule we utilize skills demonstration as part of our recruitment process.
Do you require potential candidates to go through a Police Information Check? 
All positions that have the potential to come into contact with children or vulnerable persons require a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to an offer of employment being made. Additionally, all Township positions that work out of the Township RCMP Detachment require the completion of a comprehensive Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance or Top Secret RCMP Security Clearance.
Employment information
Can I work for the Township of Langley if I have a relative who works there?
Yes, you can. There are specific considerations such as you cannot be directly supervised by a relative who is also an employee.
Do you hire auxiliary or temporary workers? 

Yes, employment status can be auxiliary (on-call) or temporary full-time for a defined period of time. Generally, we advertise temporary full-time opportunities in the Public Works departments from October to March; however, temporary or auxiliary opportunities can be advertised at any time during the year. Candidates are encouraged to check the Township’s career opportunities on a regular basis and/or sign up for career alerts.

Do you offer volunteer opportunities? 
The Township offers a wide variety of volunteering opportunities for the public to contribute to the community. For more information about how you can get involved, please visit the Volunteer section of our website.
I have applied for several positions with the Township and haven't been hired. What can I do to improve my chances of finding employment with the Township? 
Every competition is considered separately. We encourage qualified applicants to apply. Every application will be given equal consideration in the hiring process and we are diligent to ensure that we hire the most qualified applicant.
