Equipment and Fleet

The Fleet Department maintains all municipal vehicles, including passenger vehicles, electric vehicles and heavy equipment. The Department also maintains small equipment and tools, and supplies fuel for municipal vehicles.

Garage Service Technician

Duty examples	Coordinates and schedules vehicle repairs and service work in the garage; the pick-up and delivery of vehicles; and the use of rental/lease vehicles for all departments. Receives and reviews driver repair requests and pre-trip forms, checks for vehicle deficiencies and schedules repairs. Monitors and coordinates the preventative maintenance and commercial vehicle inspection programs; tracks and monitors the fleet GPS system; and administers fuelling system.
Required certifications	Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
Desired experience and qualifications	Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses Related experience

Trades II – Mechanic

Duty examples	Performs skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the overhaul, maintenance, repair and servicing of Heavy duty equipment and machinery and various other specialized vehicles. Operates various types of testing equipment used in diagnosis and engine repairs; operates Heavy duty vehicles and equipment into the shop. Supervises the work of one or more workers.
Required certifications	Unrestricted Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement BC Driver’s Licence BC Certificate of Qualification – Heavy Duty and/or Commercial Transport BC CVIP Certification with Air Brake Endorsement
Desired experience and qualifications	Completion of Grade 12 Recognized apprenticeship in the Heavy Duty and/or Commercial Transport trade Experience at the journeyman level in the overhaul, repair, maintenance and service of machinery, equipment and vehicles
