Donna Gabriel Robins Park
A new multi-use school and community outdoor space
The Township of Langley Council has unanimously approved $2.1 million in funding for the construction of the Donna Gabriel Robins Park (formerly Southwest Yorkson Neighbourhood Park) beside Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary School.
The park plan includes a children’s play area, walking paths, a full-size soccer field, a half-size junior soccer field and an overlapping, informal baseball area.
“I’m pleased to report that the families of Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary and the surrounding Yorkson neighborhood will have a new multi-use park to play in,” stated Township Mayor Eric Woodward.
The grass fields require one full year of growing time after construction to establish and mature to a level suitable for use, resulting in the desire to expediently award a contract and begin construction. The goal is to open the primary grass playing field for use by summer 2024, with the final portions of the site constructed and open for public use by summer 2025.
The park could not be fully constructed due to a delay in the watercourse permit approval, and therefore the half-field bordering 78 Avenue was constructed as gravel to provide a temporary open space for SD35 use for youth activities.
