Salmon River Dike Upgrades
Overview
This work approved by Mayor and Council will widen and raise the existing dike along the Fraser River to improve flood protection during freshet conditions. The upgrades are happening in the area around where the Salmon River joins the Fraser.
A stockpile site for dike upgrade material is located at the Salmon River natural park area located at 22801 96 Avenue. Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 m3 of excavated material is being hauled from the Smith Detention Pond 7B Project to the stockpile area. An additional 5,000 m3 of material is needed from another source to complete the stockpiling requirements for the dike upgrade project.
Erosion and sediment controls (ESC) will be in place at the stockpile site during material depositing. The stockpile site and ESC measures will remain in place until the material is used for the dike upgrade project and then the site will be restored to its original condition.
Construction on the dike is expected to begin in Summer 2026.
