Read our news posts or follow us on X for traffic impacts and lane closures.208 Street construction

Overview

Township of Langley Council has approved $33.2 million for the first phase of widening of 208 Street and the Willowbrook Connector (lower 208 Street) from 64 Avenue to 72 Avenue and $23.7 million for the second phase of widening 208 Street from 72 Avenue to 76 Avenue.

Updates

May 2025

  • Night work is anticipated to occur between the hours of 9pm and 6am starting May 26 to June 21, 2025 and is weather dependent.
  • Paving is planned to commence at the southern end near 64 Avenue and continue northwards to the 7100 block of 208 Street.
  • Traffic impacts include the implementation of single lane alternating traffic and median crossovers.
  • The paving work includes top lift paving and pavement markings from 64 Avenue to the 7100 Block. Remaining works will include completing the bike curbs, sidewalks, traffic signal and crosswalk commissioning, tree planting, landscaping, and general deficiencies.
  • The Township and Contractor is working with third-party utility companies for the remaining pole relocations.
  • The first phase of the 208 St road widening project is anticipated to be completed in quarter 3 of 2025.

February 2025

  • The Willowbrook Connector section has been widened to the ultimate curb-to-curb width with an asphalt surface.
  • The sidewalks (for the majority of the corridor), raised centre medians, watermain and storm sewer, street lighting, and signal modifications at 64 Avenue are complete.
  • Watermain, storm and sanitary sewer upgrade installations are complete in the 208 Street section from 68 Avenue to 72 Avenue.

February 2025

  • Road widening areas from 72 Avenue to 76 Avenue have been prepared with base gravels installed.
  • The sanitary sewer main and a segment of the storm sewer has been installed along the road corridor.
  • Watermain installation is anticipated in spring 2025.

July 2024

Township of Langley council has approved funding for phase 2 of the project, which includes 208 Street from 72 Avenue to 76 Avenue as identified in the Master Transportation Plan.

  • Construction of phase 2 began on July 30, 2024.
  • Phase 2 work will widen 208 Street to 4/6 lanes, and add bike lanes, multi-use pathways, street and pedestrian lighting, landscaping, transit stop enhancements, and other improvements.
  • The project also involves intersection upgrades at 208 Street and 76 Avenue, including a traffic signal with pedestrian activated crossings on all four-legs of the intersection, a northbound and southbound designated left turn lane on 208 Street, and a westbound designated left turn lane on 76 Avenue.
  • The watermain and storm sewer utilities constructed in Phase 1 will be extended to 76 Avenue, and the sanitary sewer will be extended to 74B Avenue.

September 2023

Phase 1 of the overall project includes the following.

  • The completion of work from 64 Avenue to 72 Avenue with funding for the widening of approximately two kilometres of arterial road on the Willowbrook Connector from 64 Avenue to 68 Avenue and 208 Street from 68 Avenue to 72 Avenue, including intersection improvements at 64, 65, 66A, 68, 70 and 72 Avenues, and water, storm, sanitary, active transportation facility installations, and third-party utility relocations.

Construction impacts

  • General hours of work are from 7am to 9pm, Monday through Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.
  • Hours of work are restricted to 9am to 3pm for single lane alternating traffic and work that impacts normal traffic flows at/near intersections.
  • Periodic overnight work after 9pm will be required at certain project stages to help limit delays for drivers during peak traffic periods.
  • Work at/near the existing traffic signal on the Willowbrook Connector at 64 Avenue and 65 Avenue may start at 5am to allow for an eight-hour construction window prior to the afternoon peak. This early morning work has been completed.
  • Construction of phase 1 began on September 5, 2023.
  • Construction of phase 2 began on July 20, 2024.

Temporary northbound lane closure

  • A temporary northbound lane closure was required on the Willowbrook Connector between 65 Avenue and 68 Avenue.
  • The Willowbrook Connector northbound lane reopened to traffic between 65 Avenue and 68 Avenue on November 16, 2023.

Planned improvements

  • See the map for details on the improvements being completed in phase 1.
