Old Yale Road Improvements
Overview
Township of Langley Council has approved $9.9 million for improvements to Old Yale Road in Murrayville. The project is focused west of 216 Street to the municipal boundary. Work includes road, sanitary and watermain upgrades, a shared multi-use path, sidewalk, streetlighting, traffic calming and heritage interpretation areas.
Old Yale Road is an important part of the Murrayville community and significant to early road building in BC. The concrete road was originally constructed in 1922. These concrete panels were very likely the first use of concrete as a road surface in British Columbia.
Old Yale Road has been the focus of multiple heritage conservation efforts. In 1993, it was added to the Township’s Heritage Inventory as an important early transportation link. In 2008, it was added to the Township’s Heritage Register. In 2010, it was designated as part of the Murrayville Heritage Conservation Area Community Plan.
