Advanced Business Match Enhances Shared Prosperity

A business development and networking forum designed to connect Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses, communities, and industry sectors is returning to the Township of Langley for the third year in a row.

“Space is available, registration is open, and there are many opportunities for businesses of all shapes and sizes to participate in Advanced Business Match (ABM) Lower Mainland,” said Township of Langley Mayor Jack Froese. “We encourage all First Nations, businesses, and municipalities in the region to register and take part in this valuable event.”

The ABM, presented in partnership by the Kwantlen First Nations, Raven Events, and the Township of Langley, will be held November 18 to 20 at Langley Events Centre, on the traditional territory of the Kwantlen, Katzie, and Semiahmoo First Nations.

“ABM is a chance to connect one-on-one with key decision makers in the private sector, other communities, and governments,” said Brenda Fernie of Kwantlen First Nation’s səýeḿ. “Indigenous organizations that are interested in establishing mutually beneficial opportunities and relationships have a lot to gain from attending.”

“This forum presents a value-proposition on so many levels,” said Val Gafka, the Township’s Senior Manager of Economic Investment and Development. “From creating business partnerships and strengthening relationships to increasing economic benefits, ABM Lower Mainland supports our communities’ work towards shared prosperity and economic reconciliation.”

From coast to coast, ABMs are presented by Raven Events, and combine a decade of experience in technology-facilitated business development, industry knowledge, and the engagement of influential economic partners. Using sophisticated matching technology, participating businesses and nations schedule appointments with each other online before the events, to productively interact with organizations of interest.

“ABM events are the best way to meet numerous communities all at once, making it an efficient use of time,” said Fernie.

Each year, the forum continues to grow to enhance real connections and conversations, and ABM Lower Mainland’s profile has increased this year with the BC Economic Development Association and Vancouver Board of Trade coming on as partners.

“The Township endeavors to illuminate the rich culture, heritage, and valued history that can be found in our community,” said Gafka. “Numerous initiatives are underway as we work together with the Kwantlen First Nations to connect our past with our future and grow our relationship through projects that contribute towards economic reconciliation.”
