LED Streetlights
LED Streetlight Conversion Completed
The Township of Langley has switched its approximately 7,000 municipally owned and operated streetlights over to LED (light-emitting diode) technology.
LED streetlights:
- improve safety by better illumination of roads and sidewalks at night
- use less energy
- require less maintenance
- are more reliable
- last longer
There are noticeable differences in light quality between the two technologies. HPS streetlights produce a yellow-orange light in all directions, while LEDs produce a brighter, whiter light that is aimed at sidewalks and roads.
If you have questions about the new LED streetlights in your neighbourhood or if a light appears to still be using the old HPS technology, contact our Engineering Department at enginfo@tol.ca or 604-533-6006.Climate Action Strategy
This project was identified as one of over 140 actions outlined in the Climate Action Strategy.
By switching to LED lights, the Township is reducing streetlight energy use by up to 50% annually and saving an anticipated $380,000 annually on utility and maintenance costs.
Similarly, BC Hydro is converting to LED streetlights on Township hydro lines. Learn more about the BC Hydro Street light replacement project.
Street lights help to make Langley's roads safer for traffic by illuminating possible road hazards. Use our online form to report a problem with a Township streetlight.
