Most of us have reusable bags, containers, cups, straws and utensils but often we forget to bring them with us. Create a Superhabit to reduce single-use items and become an everyday superhero.
Start a Superhabit today! Here are some tips to remember your reusable items.
- Keep a reusable cup in your car, your desk, or anywhere you might be when you decide to grab a cup of coffee or a drink of water.
- Use a folding reusable bag that easily stores in a purse or coat pocket, so it doesn’t get forgotten in the car.
- Keep a set of reusable utensils and straws in your bag or car for everyday use.
- Sip from a glass at a restaurant, instead of using a straw.
- Complete a mental checklist before leaving the house (reusable cup, keys, phone, wallet, reusable bags).
Why does this matter? Single-use items can have a lasting impact on our environment, long after being used for a short period of time. Across Metro Vancouver, single-use items can cost millions annually to collect from public spaces, take up valuable space in landfills, are commonly found in marine litter, and are not commonly reused or recycled. Creating habits to use more reusable items is effective at preventing litter, protecting our oceans, reducing collection costs and ultimately reduces the resources and energy used to produce single-use items.
