From a scavenger hunt and stages stacked with performers, to food trucks, face painting, and inflatables, there will be plenty to do to celebrate Canada Day in the Township of Langley.
Two free, family-oriented events will be held in honour of the country’s birthday in Willoughby and Fort Langley on Monday, July 1, and the community is encouraged to come out and show their national pride, take part in activities for all ages, and enjoy a ton of entertainment.
From 11:00am to 6:00pm, visitors can celebrate Canada Day at Willoughby Community Park, adjacent to the Langley Events Centre, in the 7700 block of 202A Street. The event will feature live musical performances on the Willoughby Amphitheatre Stage, and a Kids’ Zone will keep youngsters busy with face painting, arts and crafts, a toddler play zone, mini golf, community vendors, games, and lots of inflatables. Food trucks will be on site and free mini cupcakes will be served following the Canada Day ceremony at 2:00pm.
As well, the adjacent spray park and playground will be open for little ones to cool off in and enjoy.

Fort Langley – known as the Birthplace of BC – will also celebrate Canada Day with activities in and around the Langley Centennial Museum, at 9135 King Street.
The festivities get underway from 8:00 to 10:00am with the Fort Langley Lions Club’s traditional pancake breakfast. At 10:00am, the Langley Centennial Museum opens to the public and the flag will be raised outside the neighbouring BC Farm Museum, signalling the start of non-stop entertainment, activities, and demonstrations on the main stage and along the street.
Outside the museums, a Kid’s Zone will feature a magic show with Edward the Magician, a juggling workshop with Mike Battie, a performance by ventriloquist Kellie Haines, along with Mr. Junkology, crafts, and pioneer games.
Inside the Langley Centennial Museum, a children’s colouring contest will be held, and the winner will receive a free, one-session family pass to the Otter Co-op Outdoor Experience at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre. Kwantlen First Nation artist Helen Carr will present beadwork workshops where participants can learn the basics of beading. Two free half-hour sessions will be offered on a first come, first served basis, at 11:00am and at 11:45am.
On the food front, barbecues will be held in support of the Township of Langley Fire Fighter’s Burn Fund and the Fort Langley Lions Club. The Rainbow Ice Cream food truck will help guests cool down and Canada Day cake will be served at 12:45pm.
New this year is the Fort Langley Canada Day Scavenger Hunt, which will send participants to five heritage locations in Fort Langley: the Langley Centennial Museum, BC Farm Museum, Fort Langley National Historic Site, CN Station, and the Fort Langley Library. Players must answer a question from each site and return their entry form to any of the five locations for a chance to win a prize basket.
Canada Day events along King Street will wind down at 3:00pm, and the Langley Centennial Museum will close at 4:45pm.
