Commercial Vehicle Enforcement making Township roads safer
Township of Langley Bylaw Enforcement is helping make our roads safer by inspecting commercial vehicles, identifying safety violations, and ensuring compliance.
16 joint force operations with partner agencies in the Township in 2025 have resulted in:
- 598 inspections of commercial vehicles
- 178 Township of Langley bylaw tickets issued
- 327 tickets issued by other agencies
- 311 vehicles placed out of service due to critical safety risks
- 33 vehicles towed on the spot due to serious mechanical or safety concerns
These actions directly reduce the likelihood of serious incidents on Township roadways, making travel safer for families, commuters, businesses, and all road users.
The joint force operations have targeted unsafe commercial trucks and vans on major corridors including Fraser Highway, 200 Street, 216 Street, 80 Avenue, and 32 Avenue.
Strong partnerships for community safety
These enforcement efforts are identifying issues like overloaded vehicles, faulty equipment, and other unsafe practices. This work with partners including the RCMP, Provincial Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement, Police, and other municipalities is also helping prevent damage to local roads and bridges by overweight or improperly routed vehicles. These multiagency operations combine local knowledge with provincial enforcement standards, ensuring that commercial operators travelling through the Township are held to consistent, high levels of safety and accountability.
Making roads safer and more reliable
Launched in late 2024, the Township’s dedicated Commercial Vehicle Enforcement program has expanded inspection capacity with a specialized officer, a purpose-built enforcement truck, and on scene digital reporting tools that allow issues to be documented and acted on immediately. Advanced equipment such as portable scales, field testing devices, and automatic licence plate recognition enables officers to quickly identify overloaded, unsafe, or non-compliant vehicles before they can pose a risk to other road users.
Ongoing commitment to public safety
Township of Langley Council’s investments in bylaw officers, specialized training, and modern enforcement equipment demonstrate the Township of Langley’s continued commitment to proactive public safety and infrastructure protection. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement program will continue to evolve in 2026, with more planned joint operations, education for commercial drivers, and data-driven deployment to keep Township roads safe for residents, businesses, and visitors.
