Commercial Vehicle Inspections Enhance Road Safety

More than 50 vehicles were placed out of service during a large-scale commercial vehicle enforcement operation conducted on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in the 8200 block of 216 Street and the 7800 block of 200 Street, in front of the Langley Events Centre.
The Township’s Bylaw Enforcement Division coordinated all agencies for the safety operation with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Simon Jottey leading the initiative on behalf of the Township.
Inspections targeted both southbound and northbound traffic on 216 Street, with additional inspections at the 7800 block of 200 Street focused on southbound traffic.
The operation helped enhance road safety by identifying commercial vehicles that were poorly maintained, posed potential risks, or were being operated in violation of Township bylaws.
Inspection Results
- Total Inspections Conducted: 97 (Level One and Level Two inspections)
- Vehicles Placed Out of Service: 52
- Total Violations Observed: 274
- Motor Vehicle Act/Regulation Violation Tickets Issued: 89
- Bylaw Violation Tickets Issued: 15
- Bylaw Fines Issued: $3,000
- Violations under Bylaws Included: Off designated truck routes, insecure loads, and overweight vehicles/trailers
Additional infractions included:
- a dump truck and fully loaded transfer towed due to broken air lines and six of ten brakes being out of adjustment
- a pickup truck and trailer found to be overloaded with multiple defects, resulting in the trailer being towed
- a chipper trailer towed for having a defective breakaway braking device
- driver’s license violations, including expired licenses
The initiative was led by Township of Langley Bylaw Enforcement in collaboration with Langley RCMP Traffic, Delta Police, Burnaby RCMP, BC Highway Patrol, Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU), Surrey Bylaws, Coquitlam Bylaws, New Westminster Police, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE).
The joint operation underscores the importance of ensuring commercial vehicles meet safety and legal standards to protect all road users.
