Council approves lower recreation fees and access adjustments
Council has approved several recreation fee reductions, and lowered age levels for ‘super seniors’, making it more affordable and accessible for Township residents to enjoy recreation activities and facilities in their home community.
The cost for a ‘super senior’ is now $1 per day, or $99 for an annual pass, with the age reduced from 80+ to 70+. The cost of an annual youth pass has also been reduced from $320 to $199 per year, with reductions to the child and family passes as well.
“We are working to catch up on much-needed recreation infrastructure and also make small, common-sense reforms like these for our seniors, youth, children, and families to improve access and affordability where we can,” said Township Mayor Eric Woodward.
Council has also asked staff to prepare reports on other changes in fees and accessibility that have potential to make a big difference to residents including other types of passes for youth, priority registration to swimming lessons for Township residents, discounts for residents and businesses at the recently acquired Redwoods Golf Course, non-resident recreation surcharges, and a review of all other recreation fees to look for further adjustments and reductions.
The initial changes outlined above will begin June 1. View all Township recreation programs online here.
