Drone Trial Enhances Airport Inspections
We’re proud to have partnered with Eagle Eyes Search on a successful trial using drones to support airport fence and runway inspections.
During the trial, the drones helped assess fencing for damage, structural issues, instability, warped mesh, signage concerns, and possible wildlife entry points. They also reviewed the runway surface for cracks, holes, edge deterioration, ponding water, vegetation growth, low spots, potholes, and faded or obstructed markings. Thermal scanning was also used to help identify hidden weak spots or moisture beneath the surface that may not be visible during a standard visual inspection.
As a first for our airport, this trial marks an important step forward in how we monitor and protect critical airside infrastructure. Drone technology can help identify issues the naked eye may miss, improve access to hard-to-reach or higher-risk areas, and provide more consistent inspection results.
This work supports our ongoing commitment to safety, innovation, and proactive airport operations.
