Enhanced Permit Application Changes Significantly Reduce Processing Time

Permit applicants are saving time, effort, and money through several changes that streamline the permit process, and by using the Township’s enhanced online permit application system.
Permit application, review, and approval timelines varied dependent on the type of permit and its complexity. However, with recent improvements implemented by the Township, including new staff positions funded by Council, updated workflow processes, an online application system, and enhanced digital communications, permit processing times have been significantly reduced, depending on the permit type and complexity. Smaller permit types have seen a significant improvement in wait times with an average turnaround time of only two weeks.
A key change that has enhanced customer service and reduced wait times is the Township’s enhanced online permit application system which allows people to conveniently apply and pay for permits from the comfort of their home, office, or job site using a computer or mobile device.
“It’s great to see that timelines for our residents and businesses to get Building Permits have vastly improved versus where we were in 2022. It’s so important to cut down the red tape and delays to reduce costs for homes, renovations, or business improvements. We will keep doing everything we can do speed things up even more,” said Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward.
Although some online permit applications were launched in 2024 for straightforward permit types, the system is now operational with numerous permit types available for online applications, and more being added regularly.
The feedback from Township customers who have used the new system has been very positive. Many have specifically commented on the convenience and simplicity of submitting applications digitally and are very happy with the reduced wait times.
The following permit applications are available for online use, and based on the significant time savings and positive reception from users to the new online system, these permits will now only be accepted using the online process:
