Give Feedback on the Community Forest Management Strategy

The Township of Langley is inviting residents to get involved with the draft Community Forest Management Strategy for trees growing on public and private lands in the municipality.
The draft Strategy was received by Council on December 13, 2021. It will be presented at an Online Public Open House from 6:30-8:00pm on January 18, 2022. The Open House will provide an opportunity to learn about the actions and tree canopy goals of the draft Strategy and will provide an opportunity for questions and answers. Registration is required. Please go to tol.ca/cfms to register for the online Open House.
The public will also be able to provide feedback on the draft Strategy through an online survey which will be available at tol.ca/cfms following the Open House on January 18.
The draft Community Forest Management Strategy identifies a proposed set of 80 actions to be implemented over the next 30 years, in response to trends in declining tree canopy, climate change, and pressure from urban development and agriculture. It advocates for a Township-wide tree canopy target of 31% and a target of 30% for lands within the Urban Containment Boundary. The actions are organized into the following five broad categories:
- Plan for a more connected and climate resilient network of trees and natural assets
- Plant more trees to grow the community forest equitably and sustainably
- Protect the community forest to retain more trees and natural assets during development
- Manage trees to maintain a safer and healthier community forest
- Engage citizens to increase participation in community forest stewardship
The draft Community Forest Management Strategy can be viewed any time at tol.ca/cfms.
The survey will be open for feedback from January 18 - February 18, 2022. Completion of the strategy is targeted for Spring 2022.
