Langley Meals on Wheels Assumes Ownership of Aldergrove Station House
The Township of Langley is pleased to announce Langley Meals on Wheels Society has assumed ownership of the Aldergrove Community Station House. This strategic decision ensures the historic building will continue to serve the community as a non-profit charitable asset.
The Aldergrove Community Station House holds significant historical value for the community. As a beloved landmark, the Township recognized the importance of preserving its legacy while finding a suitable and sustainable use for the property. Langley Meals on Wheels, a vital community organization dedicated to providing essential meal services to vulnerable residents, emerged as the ideal candidate.
“The land was originally acquired a few Councils ago to demolish, but thanks to advocacy from the community, will remain a protected heritage asset,” said Eric Woodward, Mayor of the Township of Langley. “It’s now owned by Langley Meals on Wheels to help them serve all of Langley to ensure everyone in our community is fed, connected and supported.”
The Aldergrove Station House will undergo renovations allowing the organization to expand its operations and better serve the growing needs of the community. The Township is providing support with a grant up to $375,000 for renovations. Langley Meals on Wheels is assuming ownership of the site for $1,500,100 secured by a mortgage in favour of the Township of Langley and having a term of 25 years; the outstanding principal then forgivable subject to renovations and not using the property for any purpose other than charitable or non-profit purposes. It is the largest one-time grant from the Township of Langley to an organization.
“This is an exciting time for Langley Meals on Wheels. Acquiring the Aldergrove Community Station House allows us to broaden our reach and deepen our impact within the community,” said Shannon Woykin, Executive Director of Langley Meals on Wheels. “With the building secured, we can move forward with confidence, knowing we have a dedicated location to continue serving and supporting those in need. We look forward to creating a space that honours the history of this building while meeting the evolving needs of those we serve. Together with the Township of Langley, we are building a future that benefits everyone.”
"Langley Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Aldergrove Station House and extend our heartfelt thanks to the Township of Langley for their generous terms and unwavering support. This partnership not only honors the history of this beloved building but also allows us to secure our future as a cornerstone of the community. With this space, we can continue delivering ‘much more than a meal’ by expanding our services and deepening our impact. We look forward to working closely with the Township to meet the growing needs of those we serve,” said Deanna Horn, Chair of the Board at Langley Meals on Wheels.
