Lawn Watering Restrictions Now in Effect
Water use can increase by up to 50% in the summer, largely due to lawn watering. As all water delivered to your home is drinking water, restrictions around non-essential use helps ensure drinking water isn’t wasted.
Every year, watering restrictions come into effect automatically for all municipalities in the Metro Vancouver region, including the Township of Langley. Stage 1 restrictions begin May 1 and continue through October 15, unless a more severe stage is declared. Restrictions apply to all properties, residential or non-residential, connected to the municipal water supply.
Watering days and times are based on the last digit of a property’s street address. In the case of multi-family complexes, the last digit of the complex address is used. If you’re unsure if it is your allocated watering day, check the Can I Water Today? web tool.
Stage 1 residential lawn watering allowed:
- Even-numbered addresses: Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 4:00 - 9:00am
- Odd-numbered addresses: Thursday and Sunday mornings, 4:00 - 9:00am
- Watering trees, shrubs, and flowers is permitted any day from 4:00 - 9:00am if using a sprinkler, or any time if hand watering or using drip irrigation. All hoses must have an automatic shut-off device.
Stage 1 non-residential lawn watering allowed:
- Even-numbered addresses: Monday mornings, 1:00 - 6:00am and Friday mornings, 4:00 - 9:00am
- Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesday mornings, 1:00 - 6:00am and Friday mornings, 4:00 - 9:00am
- Watering trees, shrubs, and flowers is permitted any day, from 1:00 - 9:00am if using a sprinkler, or any time if hand watering or using drip irrigation. All hoses must have an automatic shut-off device.
Properties establishing a new lawn while restrictions are in effect may water on additional days from 4:00 to 9:00am by obtaining a Water Exemption Permit. Permits may be obtained by contacting the Engineering Division at opsinfo@tol.ca or 604-532-7300.
