New energy saving streetlights
The Township of Langley has converted its approximately 7,000 municipally owned and operated streetlights from HPS (High Pressure Sodium) to LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting. The improved LED illumination makes roads and sidewalks safer at night and is expected to reduce streetlight energy requirements by up to 50 percent, saving an anticipated $380,000 per year in utility and maintenance costs.
Residents may notice a difference in light quality between the two technologies. HPS streetlights produce a yellow-orange light in all directions, while LEDs produce a brighter, whiter light that is aimed at sidewalks and roads.
If you have questions about the new LED streetlights in your neighbourhood or if a light appears to still be using the old HPS technology, contact our Engineering Department at enginfo@tol.ca or 604-533-6006.
