New Fire Trucks Commissioned with Push-in Ceremony

The Township of Langley Council approved additional major investments in the Fire Department to continue enhancing public safety in the community. This includes the addition of five new fire trucks, with two assigned to Fire Hall 6 in Murrayville and the remaining three placed across the Township at Hall 8 in Walnut Grove, Hall 3 in Aldergrove, and Hall 5 in Brookswood.
Before hitting the road on February 27, the two new trucks were welcomed through a ‘push-in’ ceremony—a time-honoured tradition dating back to the 18th century when firefighters had to manually push horse-drawn steam engines into the station. In the 19th century, motorized fire engines became popular and did not need to be pushed in. However, firefighters continue this tradition to honour new trucks being placed into service.
"These new fire trucks are a crucial step in ensuring the safety of our growing community. By equipping our Fire Department with the resources they need, we’re strengthening our ability to respond effectively and protect residents across the Township," said Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward.
“We appreciate Council’s ongoing support and investments, ensuring we have the firefighters, infrastructure, and equipment needed to keep our community safe,” said Township of Langley Fire Chief Jason de Roy.
The Township is supporting various firefighting and safety initiatives including hiring new firefighters, upgrading existing fire halls, and building a new fire hall in Brookswood-Fernridge to strengthen department operations, provide improved facilities, and enhance overall public safety.
